Not only are all of the Big 5 present (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino) but also endangered wild dogs, cheetah and plenty of plains game.

Guided Walking Safaris

Upon request, guided walking safaris are also conducted from Madikwe Hills. Feel your senses heighten as you head out on foot with your experienced guide to discover the minute details in the bush often missed from a seat on the game viewing vehicle. Helicopter Tours over Blyde River Canyon

If you are combining a trip to Madikwe Hills with other game viewing destinations in the lowveld, you can’t miss an opportunity to see Blyde River Canyon from the seat of a helicopter.

The canyon extends for roughly 50km along the lip of the Great African Escarpment, stretching from the misty highlands down to the hot, dry lowveld at the Blyde Dam.

It’s one of the few areas of montane grassland that still exists in Mpumalanga, consisting of more than 1 000 flora species of which many are found nowhere else in the world, rare or endangered.

Mpumalanga Helicopters offers spectacular flights and picnics along the escarpment.
