Summer Happenings!!!
What has been going on…
With summer in full swing here in Madikwe you can expect it to be hot. And yes it is…Very. The hats are on and the SPF is flowing like rivers, those companies must be making a killing right now. Rain has been scarce but at least we had another 30mm or so yesterday. So far we had less than last year but enough for everything to be lush and green, flowers are everywhere and most of this year?s youngsters have arrived.

Of course you know that with all the little one’s running around the predators are having a field day. Just the other day we saw how the small pack of Wild Dogs caught up to a new born impala. The poor little thing disappeared almost instantaneously and the dogs had to move on to look for main course, not satiated in the least. The lions are putting a large amount of stress on the wildebeest population. Calves are taken on a regular basis and adults that don?t pay attention soon become a meal as well. Even our cheetah is enjoying this time of plenty.

We found the old man not too long ago and Nicholas was the lucky one to witness it all. They were following him when he was strolling around the bush one day looking for food. Periodically he would sit down have a good look around and then continue walking again. He sat down again and suddenly something caught his attention. He got up, gave three steps forward and then like a flash of lightning he disappeared into the bush. When everybody eventually caught up with the bullet train he had caught a young impala lam. That should be a nice breakfast for the old speedster.

All the other animals are enjoying life to the fullest, all big, fat and happy.

By the way, through all my travels in Africa I have yet to find a place with sunsets like Madikwe, spectacular.
