Beautiful Days!!! - Madikwe Hills

After a long and wet two weeks we finally have some nice sunny days.

We had an incredible dry spell here in Madikwe during the first few months of 2010. But finally during the first few weeks of April we had some very welcome relief. We had rain here for almost a solid two weeks almost without end. During that time we received almost 250 mm of life giving rain. It was very welcome indeed since some of our major dams and water points were starting to dry up with some already dry. Al the dams received allot of water and in one part of the reserve we even had a localized cloud burst. According to data from the weather bureau and our own rain meters it poured down nearly 140mm in just about 10 to 15 minutes. It was amazing and you could even see waterfalls coming down Ambush Alley where it nearly washed away the road completely. Ambush Alley dam nearly flowed over and filled up to the brim in about half an hour. Shocking stuff for such a dry place I can tell you. Our roads were water logged and it was almost impossible for us to drive them. This made game viewing difficult but we still managed to find what we where looking for. About a week later roads started to dry up and we could once again access places that we previously couldn’t. The result was some great sightings and happy guests. Enjoy some of my latest images.
