Madikwe Hills Daily Itinerary

A safari in Madikwe Game Reserve is a wonderful way to recharge and enjoy the beauty of nature. There are very few holidays, in our opinion, that beat being in the bush. We’ve put together a Madikwe Hills daily itinerary, so you know what there is to look forward to.

Wake-up call: Summer 05h00 | Winter 06h00

Days on safari start bright and early with a call from your ranger around 05h00 in summer and 06h00 in winter – usually depending on the time the sun rises. In the winter months you can enjoy a few extra minutes of beauty sleep.

Tea and coffee: Summer 05h15 | Winter 06h15

For our guests who can’t function without caffeine, you’ll be glad to hear tea and coffee is served in the main lodge before game drive. Meet your guide for a quick cuppa and then head out for your morning drive.

Game Drive Departs: Summer 05h30 | Winter 06h30

Your vehicle will depart from the lodge at 05h30 in summer and 06h30 in winter. You will likely stop along the way in the morning for more tea or coffee and a snack.

Your guide and tracker team will keep you entertained with their knowledge of the bush flora and fauna. Wildlife is often more active at the start and end of the day, so this is prime game viewing time.

Return from Game Drive: Summer 08h30 | Winter 09h30

You’ll return back to the lodge after roughly a three hour drive – depending on sightings and the weather of course. Back at the lodge, you can freshen up and then tuck into a hearty breakfast overlooking the waterhole.

Lunch: 13h00

Sit down to a scrumptious bite to eat overlooking the Madikwe bushveld. The vlei in front of Madikwe Hills is often frequented by impala, zebra and other wildlife.

Afternoon game drive departs: 16h30 Summer | 15h30 Winter

Tea and coffee is served in the main lodge about half an hour before the afternoon game drive departs – at 16h30 in summer and 15h30 in winter.

Settle into our luxurious vehicles for an afternoon of game viewing with your guide and tracker team. Enjoy a G&T or a soft drink and some snacks along the way.

Be sure to pack some warm layers for when the sun goes down. Temperatures drop quickly in the winter months.

Return from game drive: 18h30 to 19h00

Game drives return to camp between 18h30 and 19h00. Just enough time to freshen up before a refreshing drink at the bar.

19h30 Pre-dinner drinks | 20h00 Dinner is served

End the day with a feast in the dining room or the atmospheric boma when the weather is good.

Enjoy mouth-watering cuisine paired with good South African wine and great company.

If you’re celebrating a special occasion, a private dinner can be organized in the comfort of your suite.
