Madikwe Hills Photographic Safaris
Experience a photo safari in Madikwe Game Reserve
Thanks to abundant wildlife, luxury accommodation, warm hospitality and exclusivity, Madikwe is quickly becoming South Africa’s most coveted game reserve. Here you can capture all of the Big 5 on camera – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino – under the guidance of our highly experienced guiding and tracking teams at Madikwe Hills.
We have a range of tailor-made packages and affordable deals, with options for your ideal photo safari.
What To Expect
As a result of one of the largest relocation programmes in Africa, Madikwe is home to a wide variety of species including the Super 7 – lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, rhino, cheetah and wild dog.
Our unique location in the transition zone between the Kalahari Desert means that unusual species can also be seen. A few of these more rare animals include brown hyena, endangered wild dog (also known as painted wolves) and bat eared fox.
Madikwe Game Reserve is home to all of the Big 5. Lion and leopard are both present, as well as rhino, a healthy elephant population and buffalo. Although leopard are notoriously difficult to track down, it is not uncommon to see all of the Big 5 during a safari at Madikwe Hills.
Cheetah and wild dog have been introduced into the reserve. At this time, their populations remain stable and although not guaranteed, it is possible to see both during a stay in Madikwe.

Best Place for a Photographic Safari
With expert guides specializing in photographic safaris and fantastic bird and wildlife, Madikwe Game Reserve is a premier destination for a photo safari in South Africa.
Best time to go: the winter months from May to September are the best for actual game viewing. The weather is cool and dry and the dusty landscapes bring vibrant sunsets to life in the dry bush. On the other hand, the green season from November to April is a wonderful opportunity for keen photographers to capture the emerald colours of the bush, there is fantastic bird life and rolling thunderclouds add a special ambience to photographs.
