Community Development Initiatives

Our Community

We are very proud to play a prominent, active role in the upliftment of the local communities around Madikwe, most notably the Lesedi Day Care Centre in Rietpan.

The Madikwe Game Reserve boasts great beauty and splendour, however it is a place that is still surrounded with poverty. In the late 1980’s the government decided to alleviate poverty in the area. A land feasibility study was completed and it was decided that the best way of utilizing this land was to establish a game reserve, which was officially opened in 1991.

This opened doors to so many people and was very beneficial to the local communities in the surrounding areas. As the safari lodges were built, new work and employment opportunities arose. As Madikwe mainly employs people from the local surrounding villages, job opportunities increased. Education and specialisation was the order of the day and lives were improved. Yet one can never help enough.

Lesedi Day Care Centre

Rietpan Rural Village

Madikwe Hills is very proud to play a prominent, active role in the upliftment of the local communities around Madikwe Game Reserve. Madikwe Hills supports the Lesedi Day Care Centre in Rietpan.

Forming a joint mission with the Madikwe Game Reserve to promote economic and social upliftment, Madikwe Hills Private Game Lodge has taken on a community uplifting project involving Lesedi Day Care Centre in Rietpan, a rural village an hour and 45 minutes away and home to some of the staff employed at the lodge. The Lesedi Day Care Centre has a passionate owner, Regina Senna, who will thrive with financial support as she has already proven herself as a determined woman focused on the welfare of children. The aim of this project is to assist and support Regina to run her business independently through sustainable income.

Regina, a Motswana lady, was born and raised in Borakalalo village, 22km south of Rietpan. As a young adult, Regina spent some time assisting her aunt at a creche in Klerksdorp. This, as well as her love for children, has inspired Regina to open her own creche. Lesedi Day Care Centre started in 1995 but had to close due to financial difficulties. However, due to Regina’s passion and determination, Lesedi Day Care Centre was officially reopened again in 2005. Regina manages her establishment with no funding or support from any other organisations.
