Our Location

It is one of few game reserves in the world that was proclaimed a wildlife reserve purely on the grounds of being the most appropriate and sustainable land area for such use. The Madikwe Game Reserve is bordered by Botswana on the northern boundary, Dwarsberg mountain range to the south, the main Gaborone/Zeerust road to the west and the Marico River to the east, with additional land protruding across to the eastern side of the Marico River.

There are several ways to get to Madikwe Hills. If you choose to drive yourself, it is approximately a 3.5-hour journey from Johannesburg or Pretoria to the gate, followed by an additional hour to reach the lodge. However, it is important not to rely on GPS or Google Maps, as they do not yet provide the best directions. Instead, please download and follow our detailed instructions. Alternatively, you can take a 50-minute flight from O.R. Tambo International Airport, with a complimentary road transfer from the Madikwe Hills airstrip to the lodge. We also offer assistance with road transfers through our reliable partners for those preferring that option.
